Understanding Liver Disease Symptoms

When it comes to liver disease the three names that come in our mind are liver cancer, portal hypertension and bile duct obstruction. All these three diseases impair the normal functioning of the liver. Initially liver diseases were inoperable and several people used to succumb to the disease. But now with the advanced medical treatments  most liver conditions are operable.

But to cure any disease before it reaches its advanced stage one needs to know the early signs and symptoms to treat it at an earliest. Weakness and loss of energy is the most common symptom found but they can be due to several other reasons.

Liver diseases as such do not show any symptoms. Liver cancer at an early stage rarely shows any signs and it may be like:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Enlarged liver
  • Accumulation of fluid in the abdomen
  • Skin and the white of the eye turns yellow(jaundice)

Portal hypertension is the the condition which develops in the people who have liver damage. Portal hypertension is nothing but the high blood pressure in the portal vein. It is the blood vessel that connects the intestine and the liver. Portal hypertension as such do not shows any symptoms but the following symptoms will be seen due to portal hypertension complications.
Loose stools from varices
blood vomit
Ascites
Signs of brain disease like forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, confusion and neglect of personal appearance

Bile Duct Obstruction: the liver produces bile juice which with the help of bile duct helps in digestion. But in bile duct obstruction as the name suggest the flow of bile juice is obstructed from the bile duct. This malfunctioning will be evident from the following functions:

  • Dark urine
  • Jaundice
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and Vomiting

If you notice any of these symptoms do not ignore them as they might be a warning sign to any of the liver disease and right diagnosis will help you to cure early and that could only be possible if you approach the doctor, go through all the test prescribed and follow every piece of advice given.
